It is with great sadness that Ballinderreen Hurling & Camogie club report the passing of club stalwart, the legend that was Eamon Fahy.
Eamon represented the club at all grades as a player winning three South senior titles and also served as selector on several teams. Eamon played a pivotal role for the senior team in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He played a starring role at centre field in the senior team’s run to the county semi final in 1977 and final in 1978.
“Make the man beside you look great” Mickey Ned Sullivan and Kieran Donaghy urge their players in a current TV ad. This phrase sums up Eamon’s hurling career in a nutshell. Eamon played alongside many good players and he made them look great. He was the ultimate warrior leading from the front winning the dirty ball and selflessly laying it off to his teammate. He fearlessly competed for high balls in a forest of swinging hurleys and more often than not with knuckles skinned and bleeding emerged with the sliothar.
In later years he took great pride in supporting his 3 daughters Helen, Collette and Emer who were all stalwarts of Ballinderreen camogie club.
Eamon suffered from ill health in recent years but faced each challenge with fortitude and courage. We’re sure Eamon will take his place at centre field in the Ballindereen team in heaven and join old friends Micheal McTigue, Joe McDonagh, J.P.Bermingham, Stephen Gill, Ciaran Jordan, Patie Kelly, Liam Shiels and others.

Reposing at the Corless Funeral Home, Kinvara, this Sunday, 2nd August, from 5pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass on Monday, 3rd August, at 12pm in St. Colman’s Church, Ballinderreen, funeral afterwards to Drumacoo Cemetery. Mass will be streamed on the Kinvara/Ballinderreen Facebook page. House private by request.
